• Attach the lanyard only to the flat collar or harness
• Only let the dog walk a short distance
• Call his name “enthusiastically” and give him his recall command (e.g. “Come”)
• Back away from the dog, encouraging him to come towards you
• If he is reluctant, use the training lead to bring him back to you
• Repeat until consistent, gradually increasing the distance between you and your dog
• Once he responds well, try dropping the lunge and repeat as above, if he doesn't come back, pick up the lunge again and repeat again until he understands
• When the order is acquired with the tether on the ground, you can try to remove it
• Don't forget to reward your dog
